Khrua Thai

Brinda loves Thai Food and we decided to try this place called Khrua Thai. I read reviews of this place from two of my favorite Food blog..JKdrooling and EatDrinkKL so we thought of giving it a try.

Khrua Thai is on the roof top of One City Mall, ie on the 10th floor, which provide open air dining and indoors too. If the weather is really good, I do suggest eating outside and enjoying the view of LDP, Elite Highway and Main Place Mall too.

We went in for dinner and loved the ambience. Worried about the slight drizzle outside, we opted for eating indoors. Going on a weekday was good , cause it wasn't very packed and the waitresses could concentrate on our orders. We could be the nightmare patrons who would like to customize the dishes vegetarian, since the menu had not options mentioning (V) or Vegetarian .. LOL

We started ordering several dishes and found the taste amazing. My mom and dad were thrilled. They haven't tasted this good Thai food in quite some time.

The appetizer was Chai Koay served with Kaya. Since it came hot, it was totally heavenly..

Next came Krabu Vegetarian ( please excuse the blur pic)

Kailan with Garlic

Egg with Vegetables ( TOTALLY Awesome)

Assam fish for the carnivores

And Vegetarian Tom Yam Soup ( Killer!)

Food was awesome and I have only good things to say. We had drinks which was their signature Pandan Tea ( RM2).  You can smell the pandan flavor and tasted really nice too.

They gave a baby plate for Mira, so she was thrilled :-). For authentic feeling you can opt for the Singha beer, straight from Thailand

They have loads of other really good Non Vege dishes as well like salted egg squid , chicken and prawns..

Bon Appetit!!

Face to Face Noodles House

Ever felt like eating Pan Mee and couldn't a decent shop to make it it vegetarian, well fret no more..

Saisha and myself were in Subang Jaya area after dropping my daughter at her reading class and feeling quite hungry, we ventured into this shop. Face to Face Noodles House. Its in SS 15 Subang Jaya , same row as Mcdonald's and Maybank. Just a few doors away from Mcdonald's actually. I have been eyeing this shop for quite sometime but only now had a chance to try it.

This shop had a banner outside , 7th year anniversary and they were giving promotion of 20% off for Noodles plus Drink for Subang Jaya Branch only until 15 Feb 2015.

And when we sat down looking at the menu, I was pleasantly surprised. They had a vegetarian page! YAY!!!!

There are 4 types of noodles to choose from. Pan Mee thick which is the flatter one or the Pan Mee thin which is like the yellow noodles but with Pan Mee texture. The other two option is Mee Sua and Pinch, which looked more like lasagna sheets. I asked the owner and she said NO EGGS in the noodles .. so would be good for those strict vegetarians..

Prices are reasonable too!

We got into ordering, I got the Vegetarian Hot and Spicy Pan Mee. This came with the roasted Vegetarian Goose/Duck on top. Taste was quite nice. SPICY!!! The Goose/Duck added a nice touch to the meal. Noodles were good too. But it missed the original Pan Mee taste - probably cause of the missing dried shrimp ( I had tried JOJO Pan Mee before, customizing it Vegetarian).

They had nice condiments on each table.  Out of 4 types of chilis, 2 had dried shrimp, 1 with belacan and one was vegetarian, ie the chopped chilies in kicap.

Saisha had her Roti Steam with Kaya and Butter. Kaya is home made and clearly felt different. The Good different. Bread that came was not steaming hot, but I guess the tasty kaya overshadowed it.

It was good place to eat, lots of options for the shrimp and ikan bilis eating folks... Definitely will bring my mom over next time cause the noodles are quite healthy and not like some of the yellow mee with chemicals inside.

They have lots of branches of Face to Face noodles, so do visit them soon.

Opium @ Changkat

For New Year 2015, we decided to start it off with a voucher I got off Groupon for Opium KL.  I had read reviews of this place from JKdrooling's page and jumped to the chance to check what they had to offer for vegetarians..

So me and hubs headed there for dinner about 8ish. On a weekend , this area in Changkat gets quite packed with lots of clubs around the area. Parking is quite easy.. There is an open air car park straight down the road, before club Havana. Park here and you can stroll down to Opium easily.

The tag line of this shop Opium : Eat Drink Man Woman was brilliant I thought. We were greeted with lovely ladies holding Chinese fans and they ushered us to our place quite quickly. We sat out doors which had a nice ambience and able to do a bit of people watching.  Service was fantastic here.

We both were undecided on what to order and the waitress was kind enough to explain to us the menu and even gave me alternate choices for vegetarian which is not in the menu :-)  . How nice.

While there were about 4 dishes on the menu listed vegetarian ( the above menu has now been refreshed), the waitress recommended I try the Opium Wanton Noodles which they could make vegetarian. The vegetarian options that was labeled ( V) were :

1) Vegetable Bearcurd Roll
2) Cabbage Rolls
3)Stirfried Home Vegetables
4) Sweet and Sour Tofu Pot

While the one that looked Vegetarian , probably had some eggs and unseen sauces were :
1) Cheese Samosas : popiah skin-3 cheese-raisins-apricot chutney
2) Salted Egg Cream Bun :custard-salted egg-fresh milk
3)Crispy Tofu Salad :white tofu-green mango-green papaya-cucumber-ginger flower-calamansi-
    coriander
4) Smoked cheese pizza
5) All the deserts.

I thought what the heck. And it came out wonderful. The noodles were light, tasted different from the normal Wanton Noondles you get from the shops here. They had lots of carrots and beans which was unusual for this type of noodles. The best part for me was deep fried Spinach which topped the noodles. They were crispy , not too oily and added the nice crunch for the noodles. Soup was tasty with winter melon and Sengkuang..

Ragu ordered Black Fried rice with Softshell Crab. Was recommended by the waitress too , but didn't come out as nice as expected. So think twice before ordering it unless you are a die hard Squid Ink fan.

For dessert we went for the Cheesy Banana Fritters. They were good! 4 lightly warm fried bananas with cheese shavings all around and topped with banana ice cream. I thought the banana ice cream was really good. It was fresh and felt like home made with chunks of sweet banana's inside.

Drinks ( our cocktails) were served in nice cute porcelain cups , served with wasabi green peas and peanuts on either side.Water infused with mint leaves were served in bowls!!! Was a good experience and definitely will come again.

A short trip to the washroom made me notice the cute signs on both gents and ladies.. Don't get lost!!

Bon Appetit Folks !!

The beginning of the food knowledge sharing..

Now , what's the use of eating good food, knowing the place but not sharing this wonderful information with folks out there..

So here starts our journey, my journey to new places, old places, known and unknown places finding nice, edible vegetarian food in Malaysia..

I am a vegetarian , but not. I prefer to call myself a " Meatless person" , cause I cheat a bit..

I do take the fish curry without the fish, or I can order the Char Kway Teow and shift all the Kerang and prawns to the side..

And that too I am the only one vegetarian in my family. Hubby and kids eat non vege so we always end up going to normal restaurants ..

In the labels on this blog, you will be seeing it as Vegetarian, Eggatarian and Meatless, which would make finding much easier..

So come on, dig in and join me on this mouth watering journey in Malaysia
