Marhaba Sunway

Sometime in the Ramadan month, we decided to redeem our Groupon voucher for Marhaba Restaurant in Sunway. This is exactly opposite Sunway Pyramid Tower hotel. Marhaba is a Middle Eastern restaurant specializing in Yemeni cuisine. They have another branch at Publika too.

The setup of this restaurant was wonderful. They had indoor and outdoor dining. In the indoor dining, they had VIP rooms, common seatings and really nice Majlas ( sit down on the floor dining).

We started off with the complimentary appetizers, which was a wonderful Sha hee tea, some sliced cucumbers and carrots and soup. There were three dipping sauces , one tomato based and 2 others where chili based. Light and refreshing.

While the main menu's did not offer much Vege options, the appetizers had about 8 varieties, that consisted Tabouelehs, Cheese Salad, Hummus and Mutabbal. Snacks options were Vege Falafel and Samosas.

We ordered the Mulauwah, which is the signature Fresh Yemeni bread. We ordered the small one but what came was enough for 3 people .And Fresh indeed it was. Not oily, crisp - like a Pratha bread but crispy. This was sprinkled with black sesame seeds on top. Not sure why, this must be a traditional serving garnish for this restaurant. The price was RM7 for small and RM12 for large. Can't imagine how huge the large would be. We ordered a tomato based gravy, which was bursting with flavours. I couldnt find it on the menu, but they made it vegetarian. Yum Yum!

I ordered then the Pal-Falafel, which is like a chickpea filled Indian vadai, but different. The Falafel was nicely textured, and chewy. Tasted awesome when eaten hot. RM 18 for 4 pieces.

For dessert we had Honey Tammar, it was bread with banana and dates, topped with keshta cream and honey. Mind blowing at first instance. The bread was a densely compacted banana, dates and bread flattened to 2 cm thick and 15 cm in diameter. Topping was non sweetened cream and flooded with honey. YEP..please share as it wont go easy on those hips. But definitely worth a try to end the lovely meal with a sweet touch. Oopps, i forgot to mention this had black sesame seed on top.

Ragu had his Adeni tea and chicken Mazbi- according to him, it was awesome!!

This place definitely caters to the non veg folks with loads of chicken, lamb, kebabs, shawarmas a plenty.

But in luck to find some nice options for vegetarians who would like a change of flavours.

Bon Appetit..
